OnbehalfoftheBoardofDirectorsandtheOfficersoftheWorldAssociationforDisasterandEmergencyMedicine(WADEM),itismyprivilegeandpleasuretocordiallyinviteyoutoactivelyparticipateintheforthcoming17thWorldCongressonDisasterandEmergencyMedicine(WCDEM)from31Mayto3June2011inBeijing,China.TheWCDEMisthebiannual,international,scientificmeetingconvenedbytheWorldAssociationforDisasterandEmergencyMedicine.

WADEMisanacademic,international,humanitarianassociationdedicatedtotheimprovementofprehospitalandemergencyhealthcare,publichealth,anddisasterhealthandpreparedness.Itisanon-operational,non-governmentalorganizationwithaprimaryfocusoneducationandresearch.Itsmembersaremultidisciplinaryandspantheglobe,representing55countries.WADEMpublishesawidelyread,peer-reviewedmedicaljournal,PrehospitalandDisasterMedicine,whichiscurrentlyinits25thvolume.

In2011,wewillbecelebrating35yearssincethefoundingourassociation,initiallyknownasthe“ClubofMainz.”AsWADEMhasgrownovertheyears,sohastheWCDEM,witheachCongressevolvingfromthepreviousone.The17thWCDEMwillbuildonthehugelysuccessful16thWCDEMconvenedinVictoria,Canadain2009thatattractedalargenumberofcolleaguesfromaroundtheworld.

Asaninternationalassociationoftheworld’sdisasterandemergencyhealthexperts,weinviteyoutojoinusat17thWCDEMtoreview,assess,andmakerecommendationsfortheadvancementofbestpracticesregardingpreparednessforandmanagementoftheeventsthatinflictdamageontheinhabitantsandenvironmentofourplanet.

Contentforthe17thWCDEMwillbebasedoncurrentdisasterandemergencyhealthissuesfromtheoralandposterpresentationsabstractsacceptedforpresentation.TheoutputsfromtheCongresswillbepublishedinPrehospitalandDisasterMedicine.

AllabstractsmustbesubmittedelectronicallyusingtheCongresswebsite.

Abstractsshouldnotexceed300words(approx.2000charactersincludingspaces,butexcludingthetitleandtheauthors).

Theabstractsmustnothavebeenpublishedpreviously.SelectedpaperswillbepublishedinPrehospitalandDisasterMedicine,whichhasfirstrightofrefusal.

Photosanddiagramsarenotpermitted.

AbstractswillbeacceptedinEnglishorChinese.TheofficiallanguageofthecongressisEnglish.
AsmallnumberofabstractswillalsobeacceptedinFrenchorSpanish.

Thereisnofeeforsubmittinganabstract.

Thereisnolimittothenumberofabstractsanauthormaysubmit.

Abstractmustbesubmittedbythe1December2010deadline.Latesubmissionswillnotbeconsidered.

ThesubmissionofanabstractcarrieswithittheobligationthatitwillbepresentedattheCongress.
